DAN  HARRIS  STAKES  HIS  CLAIM

Author's Forward

Ralph W. Thacker
Here is the third booklet in a series on Daniel Jefferson Harris, the founder of Fairhaven, WA. It presents a detailed chronology of the steps taken to establish the one-hundred and forty-six acre Donation Land Claim for which he received a federal land patent on August 27, 1871. It reviews the establishment of previous claims, examines the related Donation Land Claim Notification files, traces the records of the local Government Land Surveys and presents descriptions of the Harris and adjacent claims. It includes excerpts from many of the original documents and presents maps of the several stages in the process. It also summarizes the significant events in the life of Dan Harris between the staking of his claim in 1855 and the founding of Fairhaven in 1883. I hope that you will enjoy every page.
