Jan. 10, 1874: A New Town on B.B.--Mr. Daniel Harris is canvassing the expediency of laying out a new town at what is known as Harris Bay, about a mile below the B. B. Coal Company's wharf. He says that if he can dispose of one hundred lots he will put up a sawmill valued at fifty thousand dollars. Hope he will succeed. 5

Apr. 4, 1874: MR. DAN HARRIS'S house, a short distance from Sehome, was, with its contents, entirely burned down on last Monday night. We are sorry for Dan, for he he's a good fellow. 6

May 9, 1874: D. J. Harris was allowed $25 for scrip burned. 7 (Note D)

Jun. 20, 1874: LAST Wednesday during the high tide and strong wind a raft of props belonging to Mr. Dan. Harris, of Sehome, went to pieces and were thrown along the beach for quite a distance. Mr. Harris says he can recover the most if not all
of them. 8

Jun. 5, 1875: ROAD TO WHATCOM LAKE. Mr. Dan. Harris has taken a contract for constructing a road from the big cave, near Sehome, to Whatcom Lake, a distance of about three miles, about 200 yards of which is done and Harris is diligently at work on the balance. The contract price, we understand, is $300. This enterprise, though a county road, is done at the expense of the parties owning claims on the lake. 9

Jul. 31, 1875: THE road to Whatcom Lake will be open in about another month. When thus completed, it is the intention of our citizens to organize an excursion to the Lake. An excellent idea. 10

Oct. 9, 1875: THE road to Whatcom Lake is now cut out. Only a little grading and a few small bridges are necessary to make it a passable wagon road. 11

Mar. 25, 1876: MR. DANIEL J. HARRIS is making preparations to commence logging on his place at Harris Bay, about a mile below the Coal Company's wharf. This is good news. The next thing we shall hear of will be a sawmill going up in that beautiful cove. 12

Mar. 2, 1878: DAN HARRIS, of ours, started for Cariboo, leading an ox-team, last Thursday morning. He may bring up at Burrard Inlet. For a man who once refused some thirty thousand dollars for his eligibly located real estate on Bellingham Bay, Dan takes this mundame sphere about as indifferently as any one we know of. He is a considerable of a philosopher for all that. 13
