DAN  HARRIS  GOES  TO  COURT

Author's  Forward

Ralph W. Thacker
Here is the fourth booklet in a series on Daniel Jefferson Harris, the founder of Fairhaven, WA. It chronicles his court appearances as a defendant, plaintiff, witness and juror. Microfilm records on file at the Whatcom County Superior Court in Bellingham show that Dan Harris was involved in at least eleven court cases between 1855 and 1886. Seven times he was a defendant, once he was a plaintiff, and three times he was a witness and once he served as a juror. Unfortunately, the records in many of the surviving files are incomplete and the final disposi-tions of the several cases are unknown. Dan was jailed at least three times while awaiting trial and was bailed out by friends on two occasions. No indication was found that he was ever sentenced to serve a prison term. I hope that you will enjoy every page.
